Yes, it’s here again! Christmas festivities begin on the Abbey Line on Saturday 9th December 2017. Come and join us on any of the normal scheduled services listed below from Watford Junction to St Albans Abbey or join at any station on the line. Santa and his Elves will ride along as you take your journey and we’ll also have face painters and a balloon modeller on board. Make a day of it and hop off at Watford and visit the Watford Colosseum to watch ‘Santa Claus & The Christmas Adventure’ please note pre-booking is required. At St Albans visit the Christmas Market and enjoy a wonderful, atmospheric location within the walled Vintry Gardens, next to the majestic St Albans Cathedral. Get your photo taken in the fun snow globe – great for Christmas gifts! Visit the Nutcracker King and place your entries for the Nutcracker Trail competition in the post box. Enjoy some delicious food and drink including bratwurst, hot pork rolls, mulled wine and hot chocolate at the Christmas Market!

The Santa Express takes place on the scheduled Abbey Line Services; unfortunately it is not possible to reserve seats.
Please avoid bringing non – folding buggies as space will be limited.
- Do I need a train ticket and how do I book?
Answer : The Santa Express takes place during normal scheduled train services on the 9th. So a train ticket is required to travel on the line that day. Please ensure you book the correct single or return tickets for your group to avoid a penalty fare. Tickets can be booked at www.londonmidland.com, www.nationalrail.com, at a ‘manned station’ i.e. Watford Junction or at a ticket vending machine on the day at your local station. Group save tickets are available on this route.
- Do I need to book a specific train time and can I reserve seats?
Answer: No, you do not need to book a specific train time as off peak tickets are valid all day. So your ticket is valid for travel at any time that day on the route. You can travel on any of the advertised Santa Express trains and return later in the day if you wish. Unfortunately, seat reservations are not possible on the Abbey Line services.
- How long is the train journey?
Answer : The Abbey line scheduled service run time is 16 minutes from Watford to St Albans Abbey and vice versa.
- Will there be refreshments?
Answer: Light refreshments will be on sale at Watford Junction station & St Albans Abbey. If you’re visiting the Christmas Market, there will be lots more on offer !
- Do we have to pay for the activities on board?
Answer: Not at all. Santa will be on board as well as a face painter and balloon modeller. These are free for our young passengers.
- Does each person receive a ‘goody bag’ and can I enter the prize draw if I have not registered online?
Answer: Goody bags are one per registered group/ family and subject to availability. Sure, you can enter the prize draw on the day. Just let us know and we’ll give you an entry form.
